Australorps at Eagleburra

I’ve always enjoyed having a mixed flock of chicken breeds, but we have decided to breed some pure heritage breed chickens so have acquired an Australorp rooster (suitably named Aussie) to breed with our existing black and blue Australorp hens.

We still have the Belgian d’Uccle’s who are amazing at raising chicks, as well as the Rhode Island Red x Wyandotte girls Olive and Lacey who are also excellent mums. The good thing is all their eggs are either different colours or different sizes to the Australorps so it’s easy to see which eggs we want to hatch out.

These beautiful spring days are gorgeous after the cold misty rain days we have had all through winter. The chickens are certainly enjoying being out free ranging and catching bugs:)
