We haven’t had many night time storms for me to practice my lightning photography, so it was great to finally get the chance to try a few different things and see what works. I don’t have a wide angle landscape lens so there was a fair bit of luck in having the 50mm lens a) pointing in the right direction for a storm covering about 100 degrees of the landscape and b) trying to predict when the lightening would strike and pressing the remote shutter cable *before* the lightning struck.
I think this one shot was pretty spectacular though. I haven’t edited the colour, the light really was that weird purple. Unfortunately, this electrical storm did not bring any rain with it and there were quite a few paddock fires that resulted from lightning strikes in the district – definitely not something anyone wants in mid summer!
