Part of the process of increasing our self sufficiency is growing our own fruit and vegetables, and part of that is having a compost bin. We do things ‘big’ in the country, so this is the one I have made using star pickets, plastic half pallets and cable ties. The idea behind the plastic pallets is that they a) won’t rot and b) will allow air flow. This has ended up about 12m in length and is located behind the hay shed so it can’t be seen from the house (although this does make it a trek from the garden, so its location is definitely a compromise). To give an indication of size, each ‘wall’ is the equivalent in size to two full size wooden pallets.
