Tazzy is our “honourary” Standardbred and the colour in our paddocks – a 13h gelding, light palamino, welsh quarterhorse pony.
We purchased Tazzy as a five year old, but according to the dentist who removed a few caps from his teeth he is only rising four. Although Tazzy was broken to saddle, had professional natural horsemanship training and was originally offered for sale as completely bombproof in traffic, bareback, etc he had been soured by being ridden by an inexperienced ‘kick happy’ young rider and had developed a pigroot into canter transitions which had developed into a buck on two occasions.
I really liked everything about him, and felt that the pigroot and buck was related to some tenderness in his back and most likely a bad fitting saddle (he had been broken in using a heavy western saddle). So we purchased Tazzy as ‘unbroken’ and he has become my project pony. After re-educating he will be Brittany’s if they prove to make a good team (especailly as she is interested in doing barrels and campdrafting).
Tazzy is a gorgeous boy, very affectionate, confident, inquisitive and like most ponies he is a right little pig when it comes to dinner time! He and Tommy have become very good friends and usually hang out with each other in the paddock.
Oh yeah, and the chiropractor agreed with me, he did have a fairly major issue with his back which we have hopefully now fixed:)
